“六月”最早收录于键盘邓永鹏2014年的个人唱片，在创排都极不稳定的2025年，时过夏末将这首旧作重编，以弥补一年没有新作的遗憾。这个折衷，让乐队2026年有了更多选择，无论是上半年的国内巡演，还是紧随其后的欧洲巡演和Dunk!Festival，“六月”都是重要曲目。所以我们选择在人员变动后，用这首颇具代表性的曲目承接。
“微风还在那年吹过”一样有颇多幕后，在2014年demo阶段后，这首歌随张鸣离队就被长期搁置，名字反而被化用作时过夏末2015年巡演主题。2026年张鸣回归，这首歌在巡演开始前被启用了两场（3月凯里、怀化），此后根据厂牌意见应彻底弃用，的确有太明显时间印迹。但是，一日不见如隔三秋。何况十多年来张鸣的创、制能力都有大幅提升，而乐队成员也各自贡献了不错意见。这才有了复古音色、8-Bit感电鼓，以及结束前如点睛一般的呼唤。
当然，两首新作并非全新，也绝不是时过夏末的最好作品。之所以选择发行，很大程度上是歌曲和时间、人员的多重关联。这些，是属于这个阶段的时过夏末的声音。
“In June” was first released on keyboardist Deng Yongpeng’s 2014 solo album. In 2025, a year when Summer Fades Away was going through considerable instability in both its lineup and creative process, the band rearranged this older composition to make up, in some way, for a year without new material.
That compromise gave the band more options in 2026. Whether during the domestic tour in the first half of the year, the European tour that followed, or the appearance at Dunk! Festival, “In June” became an important part of the set. After the lineup changes, we chose this particularly representative song to carry the band forward into its next chapter.
“Where the Breeze Still Blows” has its own complicated history.
After appearing in demo form in 2014, the song was shelved for years when Zhang Ming left the band. Its title, however, was later repurposed as the theme of Summer Fades Away’s 2015 tour.
When Zhang Ming returned in 2026, the song was brought back for two shows before the new tour began — in Kaili and Huaihua in March. After that, following the label’s suggestion, we were ready to abandon it completely. It simply carried too obvious a trace of its original era.
But absence makes the heart grow fonder. And more than a decade has passed. Zhang Ming’s abilities as both a songwriter and producer have developed enormously, while every member of the band brought their own ideas to the arrangement.
That process eventually gave the song its retro-toned textures, 8-bit-inspired electronic drums, and the call near the end — a small detail that brings the whole piece into focus.
Of course, neither of these two songs is entirely new, nor are they necessarily Summer Fades Away’s best work.
We chose to release them largely because of the many connections they carry — to particular moments in time, to the people who made them, and to the changes the band has gone through.
These are the sounds of Summer Fades Away at this particular stage of its journey.
